No reverse lights - Is a microswitch responsible for this? 850 1996

All I can say is that the most common cause for backup light INOP is the PNP switch. You can best confirm this by noting that the problem may may disappear when the engine compartment is fully warmed (and the PNP makes contact) or when the weather outside is warm. I don't know what a microswitch in the gear selector would even have to do with it. The actual switch that activates the backup lights when you move the gear into "R" is the PNP switch.
