gear selector locked V70-XC70 1998

This happened on my V40. If yours is the same, you have to press the brake before the shift unlocks. There was a sensor in the brake that 'told' the shift to unlock, once the brake was pressed. Mine got some grit in it and compromised this action and had to be replaced. It too was intermittent, so if yours has that sensor, it may need to be replaced. If not, hope I haven't wasted your time.
