Frank is correct. "Sticky" remotes are a well-known problem and Volvo may repair or replace them without charge. It's worth a try. In my case, the VIN of my car was not within the allowed range for free repair (even with only 12,800 miles on the odometer), so they offered to replace both my remotes for $344.20. I fixed them in 1 hour.
