ECC Problem S70

When the fan switch is set to AUTO, it can take a while before the unit kicks on. This started happening about two days ago. Of course when I take it to the dealer it works fine. They said there were no codes in the system. The lights never did blink on the unit. In manual mode, the unit works fine. In Auto, it won't turn on. After about 30 minutes it works fine. It was cold, but never had this problem before. Any recommendations? It is a '98 S70.
The dealer suspects a faulty sensor, but wants me to bring it back when it isn't working, or the lights start flashing.
