In a poll of 70 owners, 40% used a quick change place.
Please note that doing it yourself was not a choice.
My daughter went to the local Jiffy-Lube with her 740 because she was pressed for time. That week, when I checked her fluids, I found that they had bent the lock on the transmission dip stick. Our '90 745 had the same lock bent also - that car had been serviced at a Jiffy-Lube 20 miles away.
When I confronted the manager of the garage, he admitted that they might have bent the lock - BUT HE NEVER APOLIGIZED !!!!
I'd go to a local repair garage of ANY sort before I'd go to a Jiffy-Lube!
At least the mechanic would probably be around a month after he did your oil change.
I think that a 5,000 mile service is the best deal that Volvo has to offer, your car is examined by a trained tech, and it only costs a few bucks more than a quick change place. A lot dealers have wait-for service appointments in their regular schedule.
