Positioning of Thermostadt 850 1996

I've never noticed an arrow but with OEM Volvo t-stats, the area with the small "jiggle pin" that allows some coolant to flow through when closed is always suppose to face the direction of flow so towards the front on an 850.
There are times when we run out of Volvo t-stats and have no choice but to use an aftermarket t-stat (which I'd rather not do) and those never have anything directional. None of those have caused problems yet either.
