We have a basic 1999 V70 (no turbo). We bought it in 2000 when it had 13k on it. It now has close to 80k miles and has been a great car. Other than normal maintenance and some initial wierdness handled by the warrantee (headlights), we have done nothing to it.
We've owned an assortment of Hondas, Nissans, and Toyotas -- all good, reliable cars -- and so far the V70 has proven equally reliable and trouble free.
Of course, it does ride a whole lot better and gets great mileage. On long trips, there is simply no comparison. The V70 shines. And, when re-ended by a cell phone talking lady in a Navigator, the V70's anti-whiplash system performed as promised.
We initially purchased it because we wanted a larger wagon than the Accord we still have. The safety features were also a key factor. It's comfort and dependability have made it, so far, the best car we've owned.
