Matti--went through this exact same problem with my sister's 240 several years ago (same switches). I tore my hair. First the passenger side window would go down from the master control but not up. But it would go up with the passenger side switch. And then the rear driver side would go down from the master but not up. And then it wouldn't go up, period, and she had to put a piece of cardboard in it to keep out the wind. Got another master switch from a junkyard and installed it. Both windows would go down but not up. This really puzzled me. Finally I started tearing the switches apart (very very easy to do). There's a little flat spring that sits on a ballbearing that allows the switch to rock back and forth and make contact at the ends of the spring. The contact points in the base of the switch and the rocker spring were burned/corroded. It took me about an hour, but I took every switch out of the car, including the master with the five in it, took them all apart, and scraped the tiny corroded ends with a knife. And when I reinstalled them all everything worked perfectly. Don't waste money on a new master switch control because the contacts are burned or corroded in both the master and the individual switches. It's a very easy fix and won't cost you a dime. Refer to a shop manual on how to get the switches out. On the 240 they came out through the bottom, not the top. Never took them out of my 97 850 wagon (but probably will one of these days), so I can't help you there. You'll be a little nervous taking the first switch apart, wondering how it goes back together, but it's simple. The ball-bearing (about 1/16") sits at the center bottom of the switch and the little flat bent spring on top of it (as I recall). After the first one the rest are a piece of cake. Do them all, whether they work or not, because they all will fail eventually. If you're worried about how to do it or get them out, go to a wrecking yard and get one. It's the cheapest way to learn how to work on your car. Dick
