Front Control Arm Bushing? C70

Yes, they could be. Is there play in the wheel when its off the ground? Depending on your driving and road conditions, 100-150,000 miles is about the life for these items. They are not super hard to replace, see other posts for the 850/V70.

As for another reason, the shimmy could be related to a wheel bearing or a slightly bent half shaft. Something is getting to a harmonic frequency at 40 mph when you feel it. When did it show up? Did you hit a hole/curb etc and then it started to appear?
