Thanks Dick for your detailed response. It looks like one of the silver terminals is shorter than the other (i.e. broken off). The thing that is bothering me the most is why would a brand new Volvo bulb burn out in less than 6 months? I may have to buy a new base connection part from the dealer unless anyone knows a cheaper place to get it.
