two things I can think of:
a) are you SURE that the shift lock override button is completely UP ? (mine
was gummed up with junk that prevented it from being fully UP. You can
gently coax the button up -- even with strong finger/fingernail grip).
b) the large button on the front side of the shifter knob -- the one that your
middle three fingers touch when you grab the knob. sometimes that button
fails to fully release itself. (with shifter in Neutral position, the button should pop OUT of the shifter knob, towards the front of the vehicle. It may be staying "in" just a little).
