I have a '97 850 with 87,000 miles on it. Overall I have been pleased with the car. My biggest bill to date was the rear main seal. It went at 84,000 miles. Even with frequent changes of the flame trap, it still started to leak.
I have not had any transmission issues yet, and so far she's running great. My only regret is not getting a turbo. Every other repair seems to be routine. Brakes, tune-ups, belts, etc...
The non-turbo 850 just doesn't have enough get-up and go.
With my 16-year old daughter starting to drive, the car will really get a test as to its road worthiness.
Take care,
Don
