Tonyg is correct the metal flame traps were used many years ago. The white plastic ones are used today and function very well. If your engine has heavy wear all traps will fill up in a years time. Make sure you have a good rubber tire gasket when reasembling so ther are no leaks air anywhere. I like to lubricate the connection with a high temp grease. Cleaning off the carbon build up around the throttle Plate is important also. Good Luck, a great car.
