A V-70 over a V-40 V70-XC70

The V70 is a safer car (though the V40 is quite good for its size), and even my Volvo dealer says the early 40s are cheap. I've been given a half dozen 40s as loaners over the last two years. They handle well and are pretty fast, but the amount of rattles and cheap broken items (trim, etc.) is excessive for a Volvo. Maybe an 02 thru 03 would be better, but the V70 is far superior.
