Oil change basics 850

On a turbo, clean oil is the life of the turbo and power plant. I had a 1985 Dodge Lancer with 2.2-liter turbo (non-intercooled) that went 287,000 with no mechanical repairs. Oil and filter were changed every 3,000 miles like clockwork. Buy a case of quality oil filters; I just got 10 filters on EBay for $35.00. Pick a high quality oil and stick with it. The Dodge did all those miles on Castrol 20-50. As for the drain plug, tighten it snuggly remembering the oil pan will strip if you really crank it. Oil filter should be hand tight then the extra 1/4 to 1/2 turns. I also found that the magnetic drain plugs you see on EBay are a good idea. Your local parts store will probably have a means to dispose/recycle of your used oil.

Change the oil and run it hard.... ain't turbo's fun.
