I can also add that some MAF sensors/meeters respond negatively when you rap lightly on them with an object indicating they are bad. If the vehicle sputters and such then the MAF is probably bad. Worth a try.
Some cars also have a limp-mode setting so as to continue to run OK at abour 35 mph when the MAF fails and you disconnect the plug on the MAF. D~
