I have an 850 and a 760 (same as the 740 just more luxury items). The 760 has been much much cheaper to maintain. The 850 is much more comfortable.
I have not had any major issues on my 760 which now has 200k on it. On
the 850 the following are the most commmon (too common prolems) rear main seal
is sure to fail around 140k. Transmissions tend to be a problem. The evaporator on the a/c tends to crack (big job it involves taking the dash our.
Cost around 2k. I had to replace the tranny and rear main seal on my 850 in the past 3 months. If the 740 is in good shape, I would go with that.
