Would a S70 be more reliable?
YES!

Unless you hate your dad, do NOT consider any '99-'00 S80 at ANY price above FREE. Seriously, they're THAT bad.
Read reviews in consumer reports and browse through the S80 forum section here and I think you'll see.

FWD S70s and V70s, 850s (especially pre-'99) have all been far better cars, fewer problems and more reliable.
