v70 AWD or 940

The V70 AWD has a system that senses relative movement among the 4 tires and applies pwr to the individual tire that seems to need it the most. Hence it can be susceptible to discrepancies in individual tire circumference. Tire wear, tire rotation and tire pressures must all be monitored to ensure uniform tire circumference to get the maximum benefit and life from the AWD system. These systems have failed prematurely because of the problems previously mentioned. Driving on the pint sized spare has been known to trash the system because of the obvious size discrepancy with the other 3 tires. When it goes it is obviously a major bill. If properly cared for the system can last for quite a while. One buys the AWD system because they have a need for that particular feature. If you don't need the AWD feature move on to another car. If you do, have the car checked out and base your decision on the mechanic's advice. I know what you mean about the kids and wife having trashed the car beyond all recognition of the nice car it once was. Good luck on your decision and let us know.
