rear brakes 850 1996

Emergency brake shoes (not pads) do not normally wear out and I have not heard of them making noise while driving unless something worked its way loose.
Did you pull the rotor/drum assembly and inspected the condition of the e/brake shoes and hardware?
I saw one set worn by a driver driving with the e/brake applied. That would cause a metal grinding sound.
Also check the brake pads to make sure that is not the source of your noise.

If everything is OK and noise persists, then a new set of shoes would be in order.
