#1 If the engine is under warranty, why aren't they giving him a new engine rather than a used one?? You may want to get the manufacturer involved on this one and make them give him a new engine. I would.

#2 A sign of blown head gasket is white smoke in the exhaust.

#3 An engine will last and run as well as it has been taken care of. I have 88k miles on my 97 850-R from new and I don't have "any" problems.
