When my 98 V70 XC was new (European Delivery), we towed a 1500 kg (3300 lbs) camper trailer through the Alps in southern Germany. Since then, I regularly tow a 1200 lbs cargo trailer full of gear for a bunch of Boy Scouts, and occasionally tow a 3,000 lbs boat trailer. It does strain a bit pulling the boat up out of the water, but otherwise the car does fine. Be sure any trailer over 1500 lbs has brakes.
I change my oil with Mobil 1 every 5k miles, and flush the transmission every 30k with Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. The car has 127k miles on it and runs great!
