If you only get this problem when you reverse and not when driving normally then i would concentrate on the transmission rather than the wheels and brakes as wheels and brakes are designed to work the same going backwards as going forwards. Cant be the handbrake as these are on the rear wheels and its your fronts locking up, it is front wheel drive which is why i would look to the transmission.
I dont like the thing that the shop couldnt align your wheels properly so they widened the screw hole on the strut!!! that doesnt seem right to me. ive never even heard of that on any car ive owned nor any that anyone else has owned. It comes out of the factory aligned as standard, why does it need modifying from standard to carry out a simple wheel alignment????
I would advise that you get it into a specialist for an inspection asap as it may result in a problem that gets worse......
