Buying My first FWD Volvo S70

I share the same thoughts regarding inspection by your shop. Have them check codes, this may tip you off to any number of control and switch problems. Take the car for a long test drive; high speed, corners and bumps.

The torque converter of my 98 S70 failed 2 months after I bought it. If I was to do it over, I'd take it to a (real) transmission shop for checkout also. Have been told that it's the weak link in the drivetrain. As already mentioned, avoid AWD.

Enjoy it.
