the fix - followup question 850 1997

Pulling out the doorstop required removal of the inner door panel. There's a Torx T-40 screw at the inner door jamb, and two nuts or bolts with a 10mm head that had to be removed to remove the doorstop from the door itself.

After the door panel was removed, the doorstop came out with relative ease. Put the new piece in and reassembled.

If I recall correctly, I bought my part at the dealer and paid something along the lines of $45. A salvage yard was going to charge me $30 for the same piece. I thought $45 was a better price, especially considering how the door stop failed on my car; I didn't want a fatigued part to be installed.

A word of advise, my '95 had bolts that held the old door stop in place. The new door stop had threaded studs in place, so you may need to obtain hardware to install the door stop should you choose to get a new one from the dealer. A quick trip to a local home improvement store fetched the hardware I needed on a Saturday morning.

email me if you want a copy of a service manual for the procedure to remove the door panel. It's straightforward, really.

Hope this helps,

sperryrand
