We bought a '98 v70 awd (not XC) in January. I read some scary things about the potential driveline problems that apparently cost $1500-2000 to repair. I decided to take the plunge anyway. I found such a good price on one that had low miles (52.5k) that I reasoned if the driveline goes bad, I can go ahead and have it fixed then with the money I saved now. We love the car so far. No problems except that the front sway bar tie rods (?) went bad (about $ 125 to fix--I hear it's a common problem); they were making a clunking sound, which was annoying but didn't affect safety or ride. If you shop around and ahve the car checked (and you know of a good INDEPENDENT mechanic), you shouldn't have to worry too much. Good luck!
