Shift Lever Won't Unlock 850 1994

There is a shift lock solenoid that locks the shifter in park until you depress the brake, then it is supposed to release. Mine works so so, when it locks in park, I just put my foot on and off the brake several times in attempt to release it. If that doesn't work, I just press and hold the shift lock button in the top right corner next to the shifter base then shift it into gear. I bought the switch planning to replace mine, but it seemed to get better. Then I looked at the repair procedure for it and it freaked me out (remove the console and put the shifter in gear and disconnect this and that and I thought I even saw something about soldering) so I am living with mine for now until it totally craps out.
