I haven't done the CV axle myself, but the balljoints MAY be separate from the control arm. Your model year is where Volvo went from aluminum arms with separate ball joints to steel arms with integral ball joints. Look under the control arm near the ball joint- if you see 3 nuts underneath in a row, you are looking at the ball joint nuts. If not, then you've got to replace the control arm with joint.
