You mention replacing lots of stuff EXCEPT plug wires. If interior insulation of wires and/or plug caps has failed, then you'll get symptoms you describe.

Try this: take off plastic cover that bolts to top of engine and covers plug wires. Then start the car at night or in a dark garage/carport...look for electrical arcing from wires/plug caps to engine block. Also listen for popping or crackling sound...all symptoms of electrical shorting someplace.
