You're lucky to have that extended warranty, and yes these new units will fail again when they reach about 50K miles.

The "big cast" thing you mention is actually the throttle body, and the problem is that the electrical modules(2) are an integral part of the TB, thus the whole unit needs to be replaced, thus the high cost of the unit and for labor.

I am glad for my mechanical TB.
