My V70 1998 has developed that same noise yesterday and the car is going in for its 105,000km service on Monday. Thank you for the post. I'll take it along to the Volvo Agents.

I must say that the built quality of the newer Volvo cars are not quite as good as the older models; not even close.

I'm not sure whether I'll buy any of the newer Volvo models.
