The check engine lamp comes on any time a fault code has been stored, providing the same fault is affecting, or could affect, the emissions specifications of the car. You need to provide a specific Volvo code (three digits) to find out the fault. It's likely your problem has nothing to do with your modifications, but you won't know until you read and diagnose the code.
