Mike:

I would use white lithium grease, like volvo dealers spray on the door hinges. WD-40 will not stay around long enough in the sunroof mechanism. That area is designed to have some water in it, so the grease is able to last longer.

I would not use the roof until you lube it to prevent overloading the motor.
