You don't say what size the tires are, but if they worked on your 96 850, they should be fine on your V70. I run 185/65R15 winter tires on steel rims (all from Tirerack) with no problem. I plugged both 98 V70 and 96 850 into the Tirerack webpage and the recommended tire sizes were identical. For 15" rims, it recommended either 195/60R15 or 185/65R15.
