Are there 850s to avoid when buying? 850

If cost is the critical factor, do not buy an 850/S70. For the kind of money you're considering spending (heck, I wish I had had that kind of resources when I was a student many years ago...) you can get a pristine 740 or 940, which will be more reliable and cheaper to maintain. They're much easier to work on also.

850/S70s are great cars, but they are more complex and hence more costly to maintain.
