Engine does not start after long ride on hot day or uphill ride 850 1995

I would be apt to understand a vapor lock if the Engine would attempt to turn while starting. Nada. The engine does not even turn. No clicking either. Just an engaing click and thats the end. Sometimes when I play with the gear shift (put it back into gear and then back to parking) it starts up????
This is really getting very unreliable.
