Thanks both of you, I guess I'll save up the money and get it done ASAP. I just hope the seals don't blow again shortly after they are replaced. Is there a way to test the crankcase pressure at home?
Yes I was surprised at the price because I paid $250 last year for the timing belt replacement alone and that was at a "sketchy" garage where I am pretty sure the workers are illegal immigrants being paid under the table. The dealer quoted me $850 for timing belt change only!
I am very happy with this Volvo garage that was recommended to me on this board - "Scandia" they do good work and for really good prices in this area (SF Bay area is so expensive for everything!)
I paid enough for this car 2 years ago to want to get to 300k on it :)
I've also sunk money into it this spring: fuel pump, new radiator and PNP switch.
