When I bought one a couple of years ago from a salvage yard, I paid about $100. Unless the market has suddenly gotten hot, that price reflects supply/demand. (Of course, the new part is $1400'ish, which is outrageous.) I have no problem recommending a salvage part. Most yards offer a 30/60 day return if the part if for some reason defective. Just fix, and you'll be so much happier. It's not just the fluid replacement nuisance - this problem also reduces line pressure - which may cause the pedal to fade if held down a long time (like at a red light). And the leaking fluid is flammable and dissolves any paint or coating it touches.
