I have followed these instructions for my '97 850. Additional pointers: Prop the dash pad up as far as it will go. A 20 oz coke bottle did the trick for me. Adjust the steering wheel to give you maximum freedom. Having done those things, I had enough room to get the cluster in and out several times without a scratch. While you're in there, might as well replace all the instrument bulbs.
