The S40 has a cable pre-run for a CD changer. It's in the trunk, up under the package shelf. It's on the left-hand side if you're looking at the car from the rear. It's a multi-pin connector, and I know besides the stock changers, it will fit an Alpine unit. I can't give you any details about the I-pod adapter, I'm not familiar with it. Sorry. I would suggest a car audio store. A place that does installations should be familiar with adaptability.
