Klaus,

If the channels "within" the radiator, that carry the transmission fluid through the radiator for the purpose of cooling it, break within the radiator, then yes, the transmission fluid and coolant will mix. You'll end up with "ick" in both systems. It's an unfortunate chain of events that happens "regularly", though not enough to consider it "frequently". Just some clarification that may help in the long run...
