I had a 95 Ford that had the same symptoms and it turned out to be a small switch on the brake pedal. It prevents you from starting the car unless the brake pedal is depressed. Look at your brake pedal a see if there is a frayed wire on that little black switch. Also spray it with cleaner. It's worth a try.
