Problem: When attempting to re-start a warm engine (such as after a few minutes at the store), the engine will not run. It cranks normally, catches, and idles for 1-2 seconds before it dies. Occasionally it runs poorly for 5-10 seconds before it dies. This is a new problem that started only recently.
Car: 1997 855 T AWD manual transmission. 210,000 km. Engine is good mechanically, runs well (once running).
When the engine is cold, it starts at once and keeps running! Even after a warm non-start, if I let it sit for an hour or two (it’s cold here in Alberta now) it will re-start and run with no problems. It runs smoothly and has all the power of a healthy engine. No oil loss, no water loss. When the key is turned to the “on” position, I can feel and hear the fuel pump running. The air filter is relatively new and the air ducting is clear. (I do not have a code reader for trouble-shooting.)
I am sure that one of you has experienced this before. What do you suspect is the problem? I would appreciate any input very much. (Hopefully, before I am stuck again).
