96-97 850s and 98 SV70s all have similar electronics and require 1.) the reset tool ($178 from IPD) 2.) the dealer 3.) remove the bulb or 4.) an 8mm piece of 3M black electrical tape placed over the light ($1.39, Home Depot). (Guess which one I chose!)

It should go out after 2 minutes anyway. Seriously, good luck with your purchase!
