Unusual Power loss?? V70-XC70 1998

OK....1st time this ever happened. Got in my 98 V70R AWD wagon tonight after it sat for 10 hours at work. Temperature was 18F which was actually warm for the last 3 days. Car started great as normal...put car in reverse...backed out of spot...put car in drive....and THEN...pressing on the accelerator felt like I was pulling a 20 ton anchor!!!!!!!! The more I pushed the accelerator....it hardly was wanting to move.......smoothly butcrawling. When I got to the parking lot exit about 300feet after moving, I stopped, then went to accelerate....same thing..like I was pulling a 20 ton anchor....yet it just crawled its way after about 10 seconds up to 3000RPM THEN shifted to 2nd gear...WEIRD...then it accelerated just as slow... but now got up to about 25 and was warming up...........by this time I drove about 1/2 mile and it seemed to move better and then I got to the entrance ramp and due to 25MPH traffic I merged on...........by this time the car was 95% warm and now seemed to be fine!!!!! All this time...no bucking...no sputtering and no check engine light!! What the HECK could it be!!!!
