A check engine light (CEL) ON indicates a problem with emissions control, not tranny problems. Thus I don't trust that dealer or shop, get a second opinion.

Usually tranny problems are associated with a flashing arrow on the dash and poor shifting.

Your '95 has an on board diagnostic computer that can read the codes that are triggering the CEL. Buy a Haynes manual and learn how to read your own codes.
