Thanks Klaus. I've got the lock assembly out of the car now. Still can't determine what the problem is -- everything *seems* to be in order. No rust, the two springs I can see are fine, etc. I sprayed more WD-40 in there, but to no avail. I'm getting the feeling that simply swapping a new lock assembly will be the route I need to take, but I would really like to avoid going to the dealer for a wallet-emptying experience. Alas, none of my usual suspects for parts sell this assembly (FCP Groton ,eEuroparts, etc.) Hmph!
