Preventive rust treatment: when to have it done? 850 1997

I also have a couple of Honda products, and in comparison, Volvo's factory rustproofing is really, Really, REALLY good!

I've replaced a couple of screw clamps on a radiator hose and and top intercooler hose with stainless steel marine clamps because the salt had gotten through the zinc plating, but this was mainly for athetic reasons. I'd just hose the crud off from time-to-time and not worry about it.
