Mark, for some reason I culd not pull up your answer to my post, sorry about that.
The good news is we bought the car from the dealership and it had not been inspected yet, inspection had expired in Nov, and we pointed this out to them, so though we have no warranty on the car, the dealer is on the hook for any repairs that the car fails for, and has to get it through inspection.
My worry is that though they are a trustworthy dealership, they aren't a Volvo dealership, and I do not want them taking to a mechanic that has no clue what to do with this. You have given me a lot to go on, though, as far as what it could be.
It is not the gas tank, for sure.. they have an additional test and that passed. I personally think the guy started the car, saw the check engine light on, and failed it for that, and really, all it needs is a good service with plug change,etc.. that's my hope anyway. My fear is that this is going to turn into a fight with the delaership for how much they are willing to spend, but we have everything in writing, so that is on our side.
Thanks for your help, will keep you posted, Karen
