Thanks Dick,

As I said in my first post, the wiring is soldered directly into the cluster which makes me wonder whether to cut them and re-connect after service, or is it an easy job to remove the console to gain access to the connector which I assume is further forward.The winter weather here in Ontario means I will definitely want to do this at the kitchen table with a bottle of Niagara's best vintage, as you suggested.
